Our History

1997 

Founded

1998

Partnered with our first higher education institution, Indiana Wesleyan University.

2000

Created the first textbook rentals service in the industry.

2007

Expanded our operations into the online marketplace and created an online buyback site.

2010

Developed the first Equitable Access, auto-fulfillment, course material model in the industry. 

2017

Launched Slingshot Pro software to support our EA program.

2018

Launched our state-of-the-art adoption software tool within Slingshot Pro.

2019

Launched a logistics software and partnered with our first institution to combine campus store, print, and mail into one central location.

    General Job Description:  

    Slingshot strives to provide both its customers and partner schools with attentive customer service that emphasizes creative efficient solutions and a positive overall experience.  Our customer support team is this company’s closest contact to its actual customers.  They seek to provide clear communication and excellent service to customers while functioning as creative problem solvers as issues arise. 


    Duties / Responsibilities:

    • Provide attentive and positive care to customers while efficiently providing solutions.

    • Manage conflict and provide satisfying customer solutions.

    • Act as central knowledge base and problem solver for internal support issues.

    • Process customer returns and conduct inventory management rapidly and accurately.


    Skills / Qualifications required:

    • Must be motivated to thrive in a collaborative, accountability driven team environment.

    • Should be able to respond to conflict and tense situations with calm presence, clear thinking, and positivity.

    • Ability to cultivate a welcoming and professional phone presence.

  • Strategic Operations Team Member | Corporate Office (Full-time)

    Position: Strategic Operations Specialist

    Team: Strategic Operations

    Location: Corporate Office – Marion, Indiana

    Commitment Level: Full-Time (Hourly)


    Position Overview

    The Strategic Operations Specialist plays a vital role within the operations of Slingshot by working in and with a variety of departments and using this cross-departmental knowledge to work on business analytics projects. This role will require a lot of time working in Excel analyzing and manipulating data. The projects that you will work on will have a high impact on Slingshot’s business. This position is designed to train and develop the next generation of leaders and influencers at Slingshot. Once you have an in-depth knowledge of Slingshot’s operations, you will be promoted from this department and will work permanently within a different department at Slingshot.


    Duties


    Examples would include, but are not limited to:

    ● You will work on various projects in which you will collect, analyze, and report on data and different metrics. This can include but not limited to sales quotes, inventory metrics, and margin metrics. This will involve data manipulation and analysis in Excel and using/editing SQL queries to pull data.

    ● Assist operations departments during their peak “rush” seasons.

         ○ For example, if you are assisting with Logistics for the day  you will participate in their day-to-day tasks like pulling orders, shipping, and/or receiving books. 

         ○ This is for you to learn and understand the large picture of our business by helping out in various departments.

    ● Inventory management such as; liquidating, inventory QA processes, 3rd party marketplaces (Amazon),and making sure we are maximizing our physical inventory at the warehouse and stores.


    Expectations


    ● Work hours will be a standard 40-hour week. 

         ○ There may be seasons of the year when overtime is required, but will be dependent on the assigned project’s priority and urgency.

    ● Ability to prioritize tasks based on priority level and varying due dates. 

    ● Remote work will be the exception rather than the norm for this role. You will be expected to be in the office most days.

    ● Flexibility in tasks and humility in service.

    ● Embrace change.


    About our team


    The Strategic Operations Department is a team that supports Slingshot operations in a variety of ways. This department works alongside different departments during their peak seasons of work, takes on various special projects that promote business health, as well as train and develop team members for growth opportunities in more specialized roles within the company.


    Your time on our team will not only include exposure to a wide variety of tasks and departments, but will also include outside training such as online courses. This could include but not limited to personal finance, SQL, economics, financial reporting and budgeting, and management. 


    Qualifications


    ● Proficient at using Excel such as utilizing x-lookups, pivot tables, and conditional statements.

    ● Nice to have - Basic understanding of running and manipulating SQL queries.

    ● Analytical mind that enjoys manipulating large data sets and solving complex problems.

    ● A willingness to learn new skills within the scope of the departments we assist. 

    ● Ability to communicate and fit in with different departments/teams’ cultures. 

    ● Embraces change and is never satisfied with the status quo.

    ● Is able to learn new concepts and processes quickly.

    ● High school diploma or equivalent

  • Campus Store Assistant Manager | Dallas Baptist University (Full-time)

    Position:  Assistant Store Manager

    Team:  Campus Store

    Reports to:  Store Manager

    Location:  Dallas Baptist University

    Commitment Level: Full-Time


    Role Introduction

    The Store Operations team works directly with store managers to integrate the Slingshot culture within our campus partners. While we are a “third party” entity, our goal is to engage the campus from within. Each team member has a defined role, but collaboration is an integral part of who we are. We often partner with another team member or campus representative to create unique solutions. We are looking for team members who desire to engage the campus community while furthering the culture and values of both Slingshot and the institution.


    We are seeking team members who place a high value on teamwork, innovation, and character development. Each team member should have a strong desire to serve our campus community in developing the next generation of leaders.


    Role Function

    Every team member is responsible for:

    ● Creating a welcoming environment by welcoming every customer and offering assistance

    ● Maintaining store stock and appearance through creative displays and merchandising

    ● Supporting sales in a way that builds rapport with customers


    As we strive to integrate into each campus community, it often requires flexibility and adaptability in scheduling and function to serve the campus well. As a team, we often step in to fill whatever role is needed as we see something that needs to be accomplished. As we continue to grow and develop, we are constantly making small adjustments to provide the best service possible and desire team members who are able to adjust with us. 


    As a member of the management team, you will be responsible for:

    ● Setting a positive tone and being an example of service, hard work, and creative problem-solving

    ● Providing direction to the store team and performing the duties of a store manager in their absence

    ● Understanding the unique specifics of the institution, without compromising our core values of character, relationship, and innovation. 


    The campus store includes textbook sales, gifts, and merchandise sales (which can include lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50lbs). You may be asked to fill a role or oversee any of these areas as needed.

  • Seasonal Sales Associate | Oklahoma Christian University (Part-time)

    Position: Seasonal Sales Associate

    Department: Retail Operations

    Reports to: Store Manager 

    Location: Campus Store, Oklahoma Christian University


    General Job Description: 

    The function of the sales associate is to serve customers in every aspect, maintain store stock and appearance, and complete sales using a point-of-sale system to sustain cash and inventory levels. The store associate must display a commitment to supporting the overall university and Slingshot mission and demonstrate the university and Slingshot’s values.


    Duties / Responsibilities:

    • Serving store customers in all capacities, including point-of-sale operations with handling cash and credit card payments, telephone calls (including voicemails and returning calls), and online sale fulfillment and shipping

    • Assist with in-store receiving, locating textbooks, and general merchandise

    • Shipping of textbooks and general merchandise

    • Fulfilling textbook orders

    • General clerical responsibilities such as filing paperwork, typing simple documents/excel spreadsheets, emails to students when needed

    • Other duties as assigned


    Skills / Qualifications Required:

    • Be able to lift 50 pounds

    • Ability to carry, shelve, bend and stretch in the performance of bookstore operations as well as stand for long periods of time

    • A high school diploma or equivalent

    • 1 year of experience in retail or customer service preferred

    • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with students, faculty, staff, and general customers

    • Computer skills in Microsoft and Google applications.

    • Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to self-start and work independently

    • Schedule flexibility during peak seasons
