• All students receive their required course materials, including consumable items like access codes and workbooks, through the Slingshot program. By default, course materials will be a mix of physical rental books or eBooks dependent on availability.

• Think of it as a subscription box for all of your learning materials. Simply enroll in classes and all of your required course materials will be delivered to you before the first day of class. This includes eBook rentals if they are more affordable than physical rentals.

• You can confirm your preferences by visiting the My Account page on the Slingshot student portal. The default preference is Smart Study: a mix of physical and digital materials. You can also choose a Smart Study Print Upgrade and we will provide all materials in print whenever possible. Lastly, choose Opt-Out if you want to source materials on your own. 

• Make sure to check and adjust your preferences at least 15 days before the start of a term.

If you've already received materials, but would still like to opt-out, you can return your order through the first 7 days of class. After that, your opt-out will go into effect with your next order. • Once you register for your courses, Slingshot and your instructors will get everything ready for you! You will receive confirmation emails sharing details to access digital materials in your Blackboard classroom or in your Slingshot account. Physical materials are delivered on campus, shipped, or available for in-store pickup.

• Graduate and Undergraduate Online students will have their physical material shipped to their home address on file

• Undergraduate On Campus students will receive their physical materials to their campus housing before move in

• Off campus and commuters will receive an email to pick up their package in the store.

Yes! Students can save between 20% to 60% based on savings at other schools and thanks to the campus store relationships with publishing partners and bulk purchasing power. The program also reduces student stress during the purchasing process and provides a method to easily access, manage, and use all course materials, regardless of format or cost.

Depending on your classes and the course materials your instructors require, you may receive a combination of digital course materials, printed textbooks, printed lab manuals, course packs, or workbooks.

• If you add or drop a course, that information is automatically transmitted to the bookstore. 

• Added courses: Within 24 hours of adding a course, you will receive an email at your NU email address with details to access your digital materials and/or materials provisioned directly through Blackboard. For printed materials, you will receive an email to your NU email address letting you know when the new print materials are ready for pick-up (or shipped for NU Online students). 

• Dropped courses: For courses dropped within the add/drop window, access to electronic or digital materials will be automatically disabled. Printed materials must be returned to the NU Bookstore. Grad and Online students can contact Slingshot Customer Support for a prepaid shipping label.

Required materials are supplied beginning about two weeks prior to each course start date. The materials will be accessible on or before the first day of class. Please continue to check your school email and Blackboard course before the start of each course.

Check your Slingshot account to determine if your physical material is a rental or purchased, as well as when your digital items will expire.
